Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach Florida
A Center for Japanese Arts and Culture in South Florida

A unique and fun excursion if you are visiting or relocating to Boca Raton and South Florida is the amazing Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. There is a century-old connection between Japan and South Florida – a group of immigrant farmers settled in the North Boca area and called it Yamato (an ancient name for Japan). Later George Morikami donated 150 acres to Palm Beach County and they set up Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in 1977, to showcase the living culture of Japan.

Today there are rotating exhibits with more than 7,000 Japanese art objects and artifacts, tea ceremonies, events and activities, a theater, museum store and Cafe with lakeside terraces.
Visit the Morikami website for more information on the many classes, exhibits and shows.
Morkami also has a Facebook page with postings on upcoming shows and events
Some of the regular classes include The Art of Bonsai, Ikebana Flower Arrangement Classes, Japanese for Busy People classes to learn basic survival Japanese (plus they have higher level classes as well), and Tea Ceremony classes.

The 16 acres that surround Morikami’s two museum buildings include expansive Japanese gardens with strolling paths, resting areas, their world-class bonsai collection and lakes teeming with koi and other wildlife.
The wider 200-acre park features nature trails, pine forests and picnic areas. It’s a great quiet get-away conveniently located in the central area of Boca Raton and Delray Beach.
